Ready to become more comfortable and confident with a handgun?

Commonwealth Training & Preparedness Group's Basic Pistol Live-Fire Course is designed for new and developing shooters who want hands-on instruction in a comfortable, supportive environment.

This is not a class where you spend hours sitting in a classroom. You'll head to the range and work directly with an instructor while learning the fundamentals needed to safely and confidently operate your handgun.

What You'll Work On

During your range session, we'll focus on the skills that build a strong foundation for becoming a safer and more confident shooter, including:

  • Safe firearm handling

  • Proper grip

  • Shooting stance and body position

  • Sight alignment and sight picture

  • Trigger control

  • Loading and unloading your handgun

  • Magazine changes

  • Basic handgun operation

  • Recoil management

  • Accuracy and shot placement

  • Building confidence while handling and firing your firearm

Our goal is not to rush you. We want you to understand what you're doing, why you're doing it, and how to continue improving after class.

What You Should Bring

Students should plan to bring:

  • A reliable handgun

  • 100 rounds of ammunition for your handgun

  • At least one magazine

  • Eye protection

  • Hearing protection

  • Closed-toe shoes

  • Comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather and range

  • A baseball-style hat is recommended to help protect against hot brass
